Janet is a life-long resident of Chilliwack, growing up on Unsworth Road in Chilliwack. She, and her husband, Peter have raised 3 sons and are enjoying their lives as grandparents.
Janet has always embraced running. As a young child, there was nothing better than running to help get rid of the extra energy. Thankfully, her parents understood this and didn’t insist that she sit and sew! Having won the 1979 Chilliwack Athlete of the Year, for track and cross country performance, running has been a part of her life a long time! Fast forward many years, and you will still find her running.
As an adult, she has experienced some great race results, becoming the 5 Peaks overall female winner in 2009, and 5 Peaks second overall female in 2010. In 2016, she successfully completed the TransRockies 6 Day Stage race in Colorado.
For approximately 8 years, opening a store in Chilliwack had been a dream discussed at length while out on the trails with her running partner, Susan. In December, 2015, the opportunity arose to open a store with Phil Ellis — part owner of Peninsula Runners, Langley— and Garrison Running Co opened its doors in April 12, 2016. It’s a dream come true! The store is built on a love of the sport and Janet’s passion to get everyone moving. “I love what I do and my ultimate goal is get everyone believing that movement is best. You don’t have to run marathons…you just have to move”.
What makes the store worth every once of energy spent developing our running programs and ensuring our customers find the product they want, are the wonderful people who join our running groups on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays! It’s pure joy!
Besides operating Garrison Running Co., Janet is also a Certified Holistic Nutrition Coach and the Race Director for Run for Water.
